Purpose

The Business Outcome Tags feature allows administrators to create and manage the tags used to organize, categorize, and visualize work throughout Business Outcomes. Tags help users group related work, filter dashboards, and support planning across Annual, Quarterly, Monthly, Sprint, or other organizational categories.

Business Outcome Tags can be configured at the Global level for organization-wide use or at the Dashboard level by selecting Manage Team Tags. Dashboard-level tags allow individual teams or business lines to create and manage tags that are specific to their dashboard without affecting the rest of the organization.

Business Case

Every organization has its own way of organizing work. Business Outcome Tags provide the flexibility to categorize cards while supporting consistent reporting, filtering, and board management across Business Outcomes.

With Business Outcome Tags, administrators can:

  • Create and manage tags for Business Outcomes, Projects, Deliverables, Stories, and other configured card types.
  • Configure organization-wide tags or dashboard-specific Team Tags.
  • Organize tags into categories for easier management.
  • Support Annual, Quarterly, Monthly, Sprint, or custom planning cycles.
  • Enable Kanban Mode for visual board management.
  • Configure Workflow Mode to guide cards through defined processes.
  • Improve filtering, reporting, and visibility across dashboards.

Using standardized tags helps teams organize work consistently while allowing individual dashboards to maintain flexibility when needed.

Watch the video below to learn how to configure Tags and customize your Business Outcomes dashboard.

Overview

The Manage Business Outcome Tags page is where administrators create, organize, and maintain tags used throughout Business Outcomes.

From this page, you can:

  • Create new tags.
  • Organize tags into categories.
  • Enable or disable Kanban Mode.
  • Configure Workflow Mode for controlled board movement.
  • Delete tags or categories that are no longer needed.

If you only need tags for a specific dashboard, navigate to Dashboard Settings and select Manage Team Tags. Team Tags are available only within that dashboard and do not affect the organization's Global Tags.

Each tag name must be unique within its configuration to maintain consistency throughout Business Outcomes.

Configure Tags For

Use the Configure Tags For drop-down to select which card type you want to manage.

Each supported card type maintains its own collection of tags, allowing different work types to have their own categorization.

Depending on your organization's configuration, supported card types may include:

  • Business Outcomes
  • Initiatives
  • Projects
  • Deliverables
  • Stories

Changes made apply only to the selected card type.

Tag Categories

A Tag Category groups related tag values together, making them easier to organize and maintain.

For example, you might create a category called Strategic Objectives that contains multiple objective tags, or a category called Department that contains Finance, Marketing, and Operations.

Categories help organize similar tags while improving the user experience when selecting tags on Business Outcome cards.

From each category you can:

  • Edit the category name.
  • Configure category settings.
  • Add new tag values.
  • Delete the category.
  • Reorder tag values.

Common examples include:

  • Department
  • Customer
  • Product Line
  • Region
  • Priority

Choose Text whenever you need fully customizable tags.

Annual tags organize work by year.

Examples include:

  • 2026

These tags are commonly used for annual planning and strategic reporting.

Examples include:

  • Q1
  • Q2
  • Q3
  • Q4

Quarter tags are commonly used for quarterly planning and business reviews.

Month

Month tags organize work using monthly planning cycles.

Examples include:

  • January
  • February
  • March

These tags are useful for monthly reporting and operational planning.

Tag Values

Each category contains one or more Tag Values.

These are the individual tags users select when working with Business Outcome cards.

For example:

Category: Department

Tag Values:

  • Finance
  • Marketing
  • Operations
  • Human Resources

Administrators can:

  • Add new tag values.
  • Edit existing tag values.
  • Delete tag values.
  • Reorder tag values using drag and drop.

The display order determines how tags appear throughout Business Outcomes.
