Executive Dashboard - Strategic Tab

Purpose

The Strategy & Annual Tab provides a visual representation of your organization's strategic goals, annual goals, and supporting objectives. It helps leaders understand long-term progress, yearly targets, and how organizational work contributes to strategic success.

By combining strategic progress, hierarchy visualization, target milestones, and annual planning into a single experience, the Strategy & Annual Tab allows users to move seamlessly between strategic and operational views while maintaining visibility into how goals are connected.

Whether tracking a three-year strategic initiative or reviewing annual objectives, this view provides a clear picture of organizational alignment and progress.

Business Case

Organizations often create Strategic Goals that span multiple years. While the platform already calculates progress and target achievement, users need a more intuitive way to visualize strategic execution and understand how annual goals and objectives contribute to overall success.

The Strategy & Annual Tab helps users:

Overview

The Strategy & Annual Tab provides two interconnected planning perspectives:

Strategic View

Displays Strategic Goals, strategic progress, hierarchy relationships, and multi-year target milestones.

Annual View

Displays Annual Goals, Annual OKRs, and supporting objectives associated with the selected hierarchy.

Together, these views help organizations understand both long-term strategy and short-term execution.

The Strategy & Annual Tab helps answer questions such as:

  • Are we progressing toward our strategic goals?
  • What are our yearly target milestones?
  • How are annual goals supporting our strategy?
  • Which objectives are driving performance?
  • Where should leadership focus attention?

Strategic View

The Strategic View is the default view when the page loads.

Users are immediately presented with Strategic Goals and supporting hierarchy relationships without requiring any additional configuration.

The Strategic View helps users understand:

  • Strategic performance
  • Goal progress
  • Long-term planning milestones
  • Organizational alignment
  • Goal hierarchy relationships

Strategic Goal Progress Visualization

Each Strategic Goal is represented using a donut chart.

The donut chart displays overall Strategic Goal progress using existing platform calculations.

What the Donut Displays

Each Strategic Goal donut includes:

  • Overall Strategic Goal Progress
  • Progress Visualization
  • Yearly Target Milestones

The center of the donut displays the overall Strategic Goal progress percentage.

The colored portion of the donut visually represents the same percentage.

Example:

Strategic Goal Progress = 15%

Display:

  • Center Value = 15%
  • Donut Fill = 15%

The Strategy Tab uses existing platform calculations and does not create new progress formulas.

Understanding Multi-Year Target Milestones

Strategic Goals may contain yearly sub-targets configured within Strategic Goal details.

These yearly sub-targets are displayed as milestone target lines within the donut chart.

Each target line represents the cumulative target value for a specific year.

Example:

The donut displays:

  • 2025 Target Line = 10
  • 2026 Target Line = 20
  • 2027 Target Line = 30

These milestones help leaders understand expected progress throughout the strategic planning period.

Historical, Current, and Future Targets

The Strategy Tab supports displaying:

  • Historical Targets
  • Current-Year Targets
  • Future-Year Targets

Target values are retrieved directly from the configured 3-Year Sub-Targets within Strategic Goal details.

If a target exists for a year, a milestone line is displayed.

If no target exists, no milestone line is shown.

This allows organizations to visualize strategic expectations across the entire planning horizon.

Understanding Strategic Rollup Progress

Strategic Goal progress uses existing platform rollup calculations.

When multiple child objectives contribute to a Strategic Goal, overall progress is determined using the existing rollup logic already used elsewhere in the platform.

No new calculations are introduced.

This ensures consistency across all strategic reporting views.

Parent Target Line Calculations

When multiple objectives exist beneath a Strategic Goal, yearly milestone target lines are calculated using the child objective targets.

Each year is calculated independently.

Results:

  • 2025 Parent Target Line = 23.3
  • 2026 Parent Target Line = 28.3

These values appear as milestone lines within the Strategic Goal donut.

Understanding Hierarchy Structures

The Strategy Tab supports organizations that use Pillars and those that do not.

With Pillars

Strategic Goal

→ Pillar

→ Annual Goal

→ Objective

Without Pillars

Strategic Goal

→ Annual Goal

→ Objective

Pillars are optional.

The hierarchy automatically adapts based on configuration, ensuring goals remain connected regardless of organizational structure.

Color Cadence Settings

Administrators can configure how goal colors are displayed throughout the Executive Dashboard.

Color Cadence settings are available for:

  • Strategic Goals
  • Annual Goals
  • Pillar Goals
  • Objective Goals

Available Color Modes

Static Colors

Displays a fixed color regardless of progress.

Default Color:

  • Green

This option provides a consistent visual appearance across all goals.

Health Rules

Displays colors dynamically based on progress toward configured targets.

Supported colors include:

  • Red
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Gray

As progress changes, colors update automatically to reflect goal health.

This option provides additional visibility into performance and risk.

Navigation and Drill-Down

The Strategy & Annual Tab allows users to drill into additional details by selecting:

  • Strategic Goals
  • Annual Goals
  • Objectives
  • Key Results
  • Projects

This enables users to move from executive-level strategy to detailed execution insights in just a few clicks.
